That I cannot answer. This particular forum is for the Gallery Form module which I wrote, but for core library stuff you should post your question in the main Using YUI3 forum http://yuilibrary.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=92. The YUI core team checks there pretty regularly and can explain their design decisions.
